Measure from the floor to the underside of your counter or bar, then compare that with the stool's seat height. You need enough vertical space for comfortable leg room, and enough horizontal width to place the required number of stools without crowding.
Fixed or adjustable stool?
Fixed-height stools keep a simple profile where the counter height is known. Gas-lift designs can offer height flexibility, but check the minimum and maximum measurements and the footprint of the base.
