Choosing a bed starts with the mattress size, but the overall bed frame can be wider and longer than the mattress itself. Always check the dimensions on the specific product page before ordering.

Common UK mattress sizes

• Single: approximately 90 × 190 cm
• Small double: approximately 120 × 190 cm
• Double: approximately 135 × 190 cm
• King: approximately 150 × 200 cm

Why the frame dimensions matter

Headboards, footboards and side rails can add several centimetres beyond the mattress size. Measure the whole space, not just the mattress footprint.

Check walking space

Leave enough room to move around the bed and open wardrobes, drawers and bedroom doors. In smaller rooms, a bed with built-in drawers or an ottoman base can reduce the need for separate storage.
